Fundamentals of Nursing focuses on the basic needs of individuals and the nurse’s role in meeting these needs. This course includes the history and trends in nursing, legal and ethical responsibilities; geriatric, oncologic, perioperative concepts; and basic technical and professional skills. The nursing process is introduced as the methodology for giving care to patients. The Fundamentals course is the starting point for the Nursing curriculum and is designed to prepare the learner to develop both academic and practical skills essential for success in subsequent courses.
