The Pioneer River Press is registered with the State of Florida and is operated by the Indian River Community College (IRCC) Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that serves the mission of Indian River Community College. The authors have contributed all proceeds from sales of this book to provide scholarships to students at IRCC, "Where the student is the most important person on campus."

Beautiful and Rare Birds of Florida is a collection of more than 70 stunning color photographs by Alto "Bud" Adams, Jr. All photographs were taken on the Adams Ranches located in St. Lucie, Osceola, Madison and Okeechobee counties, where life remains largely untouched by urbanization. The ranch looks much the same today as it did seventy years ago, serving as a sanctuary for an abundance of wildlife.

Cattle are not the only creatures present on the ranch. The ranch harbors some of Florida's most beautiful and rare species of birds. Birds are essential to Florida's environment. They control the rabbits, rodents, snakes, bugs and pasture pests without the use of pesticides.

On South Florida ranches, many birds are found that cannot be seen in most parts of the United States. These include the Crested Caracara, Osceola Wild Turkey, Mottled Duck, Swallow-tailed Kite, Snail Kite, Limpkin, Black-necked Stilt, Whooping Crane, White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, and the Snowy Egret.
